What's your job about?

I work at Mindfields, which is a niche advisory firm with expertise in the areas of Robotics Process Automation and Artificial intelligence. As a Business Analyst, my primary focus is on interacting with Subject Matter Experts at client offices, documenting business processes and conducting a high level automation feasibility assessments of these processes, before handing them over to our Development team.

What's your background?

I was born in Chennai, India and moved to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea soon after. Completing a major portion of my schooling there, I then moved to Sydney in 2003. Below are some of the significant milestones in my life till date:

  • Primary School (PNG, Sydney) 1999-2005
  • High School (Normanhurst Boys High School) 2006-2011
  • University 2011-2017
  • My first casual job during 1st Year as a Physics Tutor - 2012
  • Internship at Attaché Software - 2014
  • Internship at Mindfields Consulting - 2017
  • Being offered a full-time role at Mindfields after my internship tenure - 2017

I managed to secure this position by getting in touch with the company through a contact of mine, after which I was called in for an interview. Commencing my role in January 2016, I have been working here ever since.

I’m very passionate about Indian Classical Music, and have had the amazing opportunity to travel overseas to New Zealand, the US and India. In my experience, gaining this exposure has been crucial in developing my self-confidence, which also transfers over to the workplace environment . I’ve also had the chance to perform in front of the Indian Prime Minister and a crowd of 21000 during his reception in Sydney, in 2014 – an unparalleled experience, and a great honour.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, this job can also be performed by people from other professional backgrounds – I myself am from a technical engineering background.. This being the case, students coming from Business degrees should most definitely be able to excel in this role as well. Any candidate possessing the following characteristics would be ideal for the role:

  • Great communication skills
  • Adaptability to deal with a variety of clients
  • Professionalism/presentation skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Attention to detail

What's the coolest thing about your job?

Being based out of client offices most of the time means that I have the opportunity to travel a lot, which is quite refreshing and keeps the momentum going. As a very social person, my favourite part of the job revolves around directly interacting with clients during our processing scanning and requirements elicitation phases.  There are times when deadlines become very tight, but in the past I have never hesitated to stay back late and ensure that the work is complete to the highest quality.

What are the limitations of your job?

Dealing with tight business deadlines means that we required to keep the ball constantly rolling – there is a lot of responsibility in the sense that our assessment of a process’ automation feasibility is what determines whether it moves to the next stage or not. Working on weekends is not a regular occurrence, but again, when deadlines are tight it may surface as a requirement. An open mindset is needed – without which, one is certainly limited in their capacity to work efficiently.
